Volunteer With Us

Volunteering with us is a unique opportunity to foster community with nature, learn about Aldo Leopold's legacy, and contribute to meaningful projects that support our mission. Whether you’re an individual or part of a group, your time and talents can help foster a deeper understanding and appreciation of the land.

Land Restoration

Volunteer with the Stewardship team from 9-11 a.m. on the first Saturday of each month. We will be working to restore habitat for native species, so wear sturdy footwear and clothing appropriate for outdoor work and weather conditions. You may also consider bringing work gloves, water, insect repellent, and sunscreen, as needed. Volunteers should meet at the Aldo Leopold Center to sign in and gather instructions for the workday. Please arrive early to sign waivers and meet the team!

This opportunity is available to both individuals and groups.

Leopold Archives Transcription Project

Making Leopold Accessible

Become a volunteer transcriber to bring Aldo Leopold’s Shack Journals, the writings that inspired A Sand County Almanac, to new audiences. Though currently viewable online, the handwritten Shack Journals are neither easily read nor keyword searchable. Your work transcribing these Journals will also create a priceless asset for the conservation community. There’s no experience necessary for this remote opportunity.

There are currently no open volunteering opportunities for the Shack Journals transcription project. If you would like to be notified of other project volunteering opportunities as they arise, please let us know via email at archives@aldoleopold.org!
