John Matthews is a strategist and leadership advisor with extensive board governance experience.
John began his career as a news reporter, later moving into government, rising to chief of staff to former Wisconsin Governor and U.S. Health Secretary Tommy Thompson. John led the national Public Affairs Practice for Milwaukee law firm Foley & Lardner. He was a global senior officer at Diversey Inc., serving as chief of staff to the CEO and senior vice president for public affairs and sustainability. John currently serves clients through Matthews Strategic Services LLC.
Among John’s current and former clients are the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Deloitte, Green Bay Packers, Advocate Aurora Health Care, and numerous other national and international enterprises.
John serves as a board member for Call2Recycle, a national battery recycling organization; The Water Council, an economic development group focused on water technology; and Intellivisit, an AI-enabled virtual healthcare company.
John holds a B.A. degree in Journalism from the University of Wisconsin – Whitewater.
