Our Mission

Cultivating Harmony

The Aldo Leopold Foundation’s mission is to foster a land ethic through the legacy of Aldo Leopold. Inspired by his profound vision, we seek to cultivate an understanding and appreciation of our relationship with the environment on all levels, be it individuals or entire communities.

Our Vision

Shaping Tomorrow’s Conservation Leadership

Our vision is to weave a land ethic into the fabric of our society, to advance the understanding, stewardship and restoration of land health, and to cultivate leadership for conservation. We aim to instill a deep respect for the environment in every individual and community through education, advocacy, and hands-on initiatives. One day, we hope to transform the way society interacts with the natural world, fostering a future where conservation leadership thrives at every level.

Land Acknowledgement

We acknowledge that at the Aldo Leopold Center and in the Baraboo region of Wisconsin, we are on traditional Ho-Chunk, Sac and Fox, and Kickapoo homelands, and we honor these original stewards. We strive to be accountable by recognizing this occupation and that eleven sovereign tribal nations remain present and continue their longstanding relationships with the lands and waters of this state. As the Aldo Leopold Foundation seeks to inspire an ethical relationship to our planet, we respectfully recognize the leadership of Indigenous nations past, present, and future, and join our work to theirs.
