Home Range Hall

The Home Range Hall is a space for lectures or informal, classroom-style sessions. Designed for three-season use, the hall is mostly heated and cooled naturally. From June through September, screened windows are left open to provide fresh air from outside. In early spring and late fall, storm windows are installed to help insulate the space. A wood stove is the only heat source on chilly days.

Overhead, hand-peeled Leopold pine trusses frame the space and support the roof. Doors open onto a grassy courtyard surrounded by native plantings. Restrooms are located in our main building, which is a short walk across the courtyard.

Availability

The Home Range Hall is available for rent from mid-April to early November.

Capacity

The Home Range Hall can accommodate 35 people in a classroom setup, or 80 people in a lecture setup.

Classroom-Style Room Setup

Classroom-style means that each person has a seat at a table, with all people facing the same direction (usually toward a screen or instructor). In this case, the hall’s maximum capacity is 35 people. However, we can accommodate up to 50 people by seating them on both sides of tables, although in this arrangement they are no longer all facing the same way.

Lecture-Style Room Setup

While the lecture-style capacity of the Home Range Hall is high – 80 people – the capacity is much lower when people must be seated at tables during part of the day, such as at breakfast or lunch. Moreover, there often isn’t enough time at large meetings to reset the room from lecture- to classroom-style.

For these reasons we suggest that you serve meals informally if you are hosting a lecture-style meeting in the Home Range Hall.

One arrangement that works well is to have guests move through a buffet line in our main facility, and then take their plates to a secluded bench by the rain garden, another place outside, or to their seat inside the hall. We can recommend the best serving arrangement for you based on the size of your group and your room layout needs.
