Volunteering Opportunities

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with the Aldo Leopold Foundation! Explore our various opportunities below.

Land Stewardship Volunteer (On-Site; Baraboo, WI)

Volunteer with the Stewardship team on the first Saturday of the month! Help live a land ethic by restoring habitat for native species and:

  • Get your hands dirty
  • Get sweaty
  • Work hard
  • Restore local ecosystems
  • Help create and rehabilitate habitat for local species
  • Remove problematic invasive species to restore native habitat
  • Sow/plant native seed and plugs
    and more!

What to expect: Volunteer hours are 9–11 a.m., please arrive early to sign waivers and meet and greet the team!

What to bring: Wear sturdy footwear and clothing appropriate for outdoor work and weather conditions. Safety equipment and tools are provided. Bring work gloves if you own them, plus drinking water, insect repellent and sunscreen, as needed.

Volunteers should meet at the Aldo Leopold Center to sign in and gather instructions for the workday. The Aldo Leopold Center is located at E13701 Levee Rd., Baraboo, WI 53913.

  • Note: Preferences will be considered however it will be at the discretion of the stewardship volunteer coordinator to determine the best activity for your group based on many factors.
    Note: spaces are limited and may not be available during your visit.
    Note: There may be a fee attached to some of these options and would be determined by staffing needs.

Leopold Archives Transcription Project (Remote) 

Thank you for helping us transcribe Leopold’s writings in the Shack Journals that inspired A Sand County Almanac!
