Estella Leopold, the youngest daughter of Aldo and Estella Leopold, Sr., is an emeritus professor of botany and past director of the Quaternary Research Center at the University of Washington. Estella was elected to the National Academy of Sciences and the American Philosophical Society. Her research interests focus on paleobotany, forest history, restoration ecology, and environmental quality. She studies fossil pollen and spores of the Cenozoic with an interest in plant biogeography. Currently she chairs a nonprofit group, Farming and the Environment, in Washington State. Most recently, Estella received the prestigious Cosmos Prize for her life work in conservation.
