The Aldo Leopold Foundation is hiring a full-time Communications and Marketing Coordinator to help with the foundation’s communications and marketing efforts and the My Wisconsin Woods project.
Impact of the Position
The Communications and Marketing Coordinator utilizes the foundation’s programs and projects to achieve three primary goals: connect people to our organization’s mission and work by advancing communication projects for the foundation; promote the Leopold Center, Shack and the surrounding landscape as a major conservation destination; and develop and present the land ethic as inclusive to all people. This position will grow support for the foundation’s mission and participation in the organization’s programs with diverse new audiences.
Information on the Community
Located 45 minutes north of Madison, Baraboo was ranked as one of the top five best small towns in America by Smithsonian magazine in 2011. The Shack and Leopold Center are located on a rustic road along the Wisconsin River, just 15 minutes outside of town. The natural beauty and biodiversity of the region is exceptional. This ecoregion is home to over 1,800 species of plants and animals. The floodplain forest surrounding the Shack is part of the Leopold-Pine Island Important Bird Area, where we help protect critical breeding habitat for over 150 species of birds. Outdoor recreation opportunities abound with paddling on the Baraboo and Wisconsin rivers and hiking trails at Devil’s Lake and Mirror Lake state parks and countless State Natural Areas.
The Communications and Marketing Coordinator works fifty percent of the time on Aldo Leopold Foundation communications initiatives. The core responsibilities in this area include the Aldo Leopold Foundation website, the biannual Leopold Outlook magazine, and program marketing. The other fifty percent of the time focuses on the My Wisconsin Woods initiative. The core responsibilities include the My Wisconsin Woods project website, the monthly My Wisconsin Woods e-newsletter, and My Wisconsin Woods marketing materials. My Wisconsin Woods is a partnership project coordinated by the foundation and serves as a real-world example of growing the land ethic. Through coordinated communication with private landowners, we move them toward on-the-ground action using the products and services available through all project partners, including those of the Aldo Leopold Foundation. The organizational responsibilities of this full-time, entry-level position will grow in scope as the position matures within the foundation.
Send a resume, cover letter, contact information for two references, and at least one professional writing sample via email to firstname.lastname@example.org and use “Communications and Marketing Coordinator- SOC” as the subject line. Application materials will be accepted until January 28, 2016. Interviews will take place in February and the expected start date of the position will be late February to early March 2016. The Aldo Leopold Foundation is an equal opportunity employer, and recognizes that just as a healthy ecosystem depends on biodiversity, cultural and social diversity are also essential to a healthy human society. We are committed to expanding the conversation on land ethics by acting to achieve a rich diversity of staff, board, volunteers, members, supporters and those we seek to engage with our programming. We encourage applicants to address this foundation goal in their application materials.
