Making a gift to the Aldo Leopold Foundation advances the future of conservation through Leopold’s legacy. If you have an Individual Retirement Account and are 70 ½ or older you can consider using your IRA as a way to support the foundation. Once individuals reach the age of 70 ½, they are generally required to take a distribution from their traditional IRA account(s).
With the PATH Act of 2015, the charitable rollover option was made permanent, allowing for distributions to be made directly to public charities like the Aldo Leopold Foundation without paying income tax on the withdrawal.
There are some limitations that donors should be aware of including that distributions cannot be made to donor advised funds or supporting organizations, and the maximum distribution one can make from an IRA directly to a charity is $100,000. There is no income threshold or cutoff. Please visit the IRS webpage for additional information on these provisions.
Consider using the form below to notify your plan trustee that you would like to make a distribution from your IRA account to support the Aldo Leopold Foundation’s work to build a land ethic. Don’t forget to let us know of your intent so we can fully identify and acknowledge your generous support!
However you choose to contribute, know that it will ensure a future of teaching, learning, inspiring, and changing lives through the legacy of Aldo Leopold. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Buddy Huffaker at 608.355.0279 x 22, or at buddy@aldoleopold.org.
