This year’s Aldo Leopold Weekend in Eau Claire will shift from the Library to the Radio with the live broadcast of the Aldo Leopold Hour+. We’ll kick off the weekend on Thursday March 5 starting at 3:00 and running an hour+ until 4:45. This will be a Leopold themed version of the Thursday afternoon show All Things 6 String hosted by UW-Eau Claire Geography Professor Sean Hartnett and the Sierra Club’s Jeff Henry. Sean and Jeff will be joined by birder and environmental journalist Steve Betchkal, with a few other Leopold enthusiasts dropping in. Being a live broadcast – listeners can call in to read their favorite quote or passage (715.831.9497). We’ll be reading some excerpts from A Sand Country Almanac and other Leopold writings, as well as offering some perspectives about Leopold lifework, be it in forestry, wildlife management or ecological restoration – on campus at UW-Madison, in the field or at the Shack
The highlight of the show will be a reading of The Good Oak at 3:30 by renown Pepin thespian Terry Mesch. Terry’s reading of this revered tale will take you via Leopold’s livid prose back in time to the Shack, seemingly pulling the other end of the two handled saw with Aldo as he works his way through tree rings and environmental history.
