Mastering the basics of chainsaw safety is essential for woodland owners who want to be more active on their land. This course, certified through the Safety and Woods Worker (SAWW) training program, is part of a four-level series designed to increase the safety and efficiency of chainsaw use.
This course focuses on estimating tree height and lean, as well as placing wedges. The coursework prepares you to safely fell trees on your land to create fire breaks for prescribed burns, remove snags, make firewood, and do timber stand improvements. Plan on spending the whole day in the field with instructors. This is an advanced course; levels 1 and 2 are prerequisites to attend.
Instructor Nathan Stanford has 18 years of chainsaw training experience. He serves as a certified trainer through SAWW and as a “C” certifier for the U.S. Forest Service.
