**NEW** Forest Soils & Geology

Saturday, Apr. 9, 9:00am-4:00pm

Another way to gain a better appreciation of one’s land is to understand its glacial and geologic past. Looking into Wisconsin’s glacial history sheds light into todays vegetation covers throughout the state. Through the lens of Wisconsin’s glacial history one can then began to piece together one’s own soil types as well as the forest types that associate those soils. To gain knowledge of one’s own soil profiles and forest types is another unambiguous tool that allows for better informed management decisions by allowing the landowner to see not just what happens above ground, but what is growing underground. This experience will help solidify that everything thing on one’s land is connected to the ecological community. This seminar will provide the basic understanding of Wisconsin’s glacial and geologic footprint that has shaped and influenced the state’s diverse soil composition and forest types.

Instructor: Craig Maier, University of Wisconsin.

Location: Leopold Center, Baraboo.

Cost: $45 ($40 members).
