Archives Photo Display

We have assembled a rich collection of historic photographs from the Leopold family and the help of other institutions. As part of the effort to record detailed metadata for each photograph, Projects Coordinator Jeannine Richards has been interviewing the Leopold children about the content and context of individual images. We are now able provide access here to excerpts from these interviews and glimpses of less frequently seen photographs on a rotating basis. We hope this display will provide an enhanced understanding of the extent and importance of our photographic collection, and an interesting, interactive way for you to learn more about Aldo Leopold and the Shack experience.

The History of the Shack Construction

Using the archival materials available to us, we have been able to closely trace some of the changes the Leopold family made to the Shack and Farm. By using a combination of family journal entries, photographs, and existing physical artifacts in the Shack, we have been able to bring alive different aspects of the construction.
