Education & Outreach Programs
“We can be ethical only in relation to something we
can see, feel, understand, love or otherwise have faith in.”
The Aldo Leopold Foundation offers educational
and outreach programs to increase the ecological literacy of our citizens.
Many of these opportunities are hosted at the new Leopold Legacy Center and at the original Leopold farm, where
forests, wetlands and prairies serve as an outdoor classroom for exploring
ecological relationships.
In addition to these programs, The Foundation
sponsors seminars and workshops promoting
an understanding and appreciation of the conservation movement's history,
and participates in the planning and implementation of training sessions for
a variety of conservation organizations.
The Foundation offers an educational discount on copies of A Sand County Almanac and provides a free reading guide and other teaching tools that are available online in the Resources section of this web site.

Speaking Engagements
The Aldo Leopold Foundation staff and
its volunteers share biographical information about Aldo Leopold, analyze
his contribution to conservation and interpret the application of his work
on today's conservation issues. Contact the Foundation to arrange for a representative
to present at your gathering.
Shack Seminar Series
The Foundation hosts the Shack Seminar Series,
a free summer program that invites discussion on issues facing conservation
today. A tradition begun by Aldo Leopold, the Shack Seminar Series
offers an opportunity for discussion of conservation issues with
leaders from a variety of disciplines. Seminars are held on alternating
Monday evenings in June, July, and August.
Seminars begin at 6:30 p.m. outside the Leopold
Shack, with an optional potluck supper at 6:00. In case of inclement
weather, seminars will be moved to a nearby indoor location. Seminars
are free and open to the public. See our calendar of events for more information.
