Aldo Leopold Weekend 2010
Every year, Aldo Leopold Weekend takes place on the second weekend in March across Wisconsin. Now, communities nationwide are beginning to adopt the celebration. We hope you'll join an event close to your home this year to read and discuss Leopold with your community. (And if you can't find an event nearby, please consider sponsoring your own next year!) We are very proud to announce that Boldt Construction will again be sponsoring Leopold Weekend events across Wisconsin and the nation this year!
In Baraboo: join us for the Making it Home environmental film festival, March 5-7, as a great way to celebrate Wisconsin's conservation legacy on Leopold Weekend. |

Help Us Make a Documentary!
Vote for the foundation to win a $50,000 grant from Pepsi. Click here to vote!
We've applied for a grant for $50,000 from Pepsi's Refresh Everything contest to help us make a documentary film about Aldo Leopold. You can help us win the money by voting daily for our project until Feb. 28. We're currently in 31st place, and we need to make it into the top ten to win, so help us out by taking a few moments to vote every day until the end of the month. Help us make Green Fire a reality!
If you don't like the idea of giving Pepsi your email address (which we completely understand!), consider using a disposable email. We have received positive and negative feedback about our participation in this type of contest from some of our members. We'd like to hear what you think, too, so please share your thoughts with us by email or on our Facebook page. We hope that you will bear with us as we experiment with how the world of social media can help us to reach new audiences!
To learn more about the film Green Fire and watch a preview, visit our website at www.aldoleopold.org/greenfire. Stay tuned for more information in our upcoming e-newsletters as well!

Submit a Proposal for This Summer's LEP Conference
The Leopold Education Project is a national network of educators promoting environmental education based in the writings of Aldo Leopold. Every summer, the Leopold Education Project National Conference is held at the Leopold Center in Baraboo. The planning committee is already working hard to get things set for this year’s conference in June at the Leopold Center. We've confirmed author Scott Russell Sanders as a keynote speaker, but we're still planning the rest of the agenda. If you'd like to be a speaker, please submit a proposal. Presenters will receive a $50 discount on conference registration. Registration will open late February. Submit a proposal today! |

Meet Our New Interns!
We welcomed two new land stewardship interns this week, and we'd like you to meet them, too!
Fletcher Clark Growing up my baby sitter was the outdoors. Naturally, my interests include anything outdoors such as hiking, camping, snowboarding, and mountain biking. This does not mean however that I do not enjoy taking the time to relax with a book and cook a great dinner. As an undergraduate I attended a community college in western Massachusetts near to where I grew up. I then transferred to Prescott College in Arizona to receive my bachelor’s degree in Conservation Biology. After college I was a fellow with the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation, and more recently I was interning with the Emerald Necklace Conservancy in Boston, Massachusetts that restores and maintains a historic parkland. I feel access to open space increases one’s quality of life and this awareness is how I found ALF. I am looking forward to embark on my next adventure exploring Wisconsin with the team at ALF.
Carson Main I was born and raised in rural, eastern South Dakota. While growing up I was fortunate enough to have lots of time and space to explore the outdoor world. This is an activity that I still cherish today, and my curiosity about nature and ecological systems continues to influence what I do. My education began at Colorado State University in Ft. Collins, and then I chose to transfer to The Evergreen State College in Olympia, WA. I have recently received a Bachelor of Environmental Science degree. Studying abroad in remote parts of SE Asia strengthened my interest in people's relationship to the land that sustains them. I am interested in learning the skills necessary to understand ecological interactions, identify environmental threats, and implement practical restoration solutions. I have also been employed as a cavern naturalist and organic vegetable farmer and like to climb, hike, camp, garden, and run. I am excited to join the team at the ALF and am fortunate for this opportunity to learn from and help promote Leopold's legacy.
